| What is Citizen Journalism? | ||||||
The Citizen Journalism program encourages citizens to find the important, timely, and globally relevant stories in their own communities and give them the skills and the platform to share these stories with people from all over the world. Using open-source technology for audio, visual and video production, this program trains small teams of news makers, who are often students and young adults, throughout the world. These Citizen Journalists then pitch and report stories on a wide range of topics - everything from regional political issues, to family and community history, to lifestyle and sports. In addition to helping participants learn to better tell their own stories, the program will also provide a forum where people can connect with other journalists and learn about the lives of peers in faraway places. Technology allows for the next generation of radio journalists, photo-journalists and video-journalists to be each and every one of us and we aim to equip these citizen journalists with the technical, ethical and practical skills to report on the world around them.
